The Silhouette Cameo is for crafty people. Crafty people who want to electronically cut their own intricately-designed greeting cards and cupcake papers. Or crafty people who want to DIY a perfect, mathematically accurate yellow bat for their Comic-Con Dark Knight costume. A personal slicing and drawing tool, the Cameo can assist in the creation of projects made from paper, cardstock, vinyl, and fabric. So, yeah, in a way it's mostly for girls. But in another way...I like getting cupcakes and birthday cards and Batman costumes.
Controlled from a computer or SD card, and used in tandem with free Silhouette Studio software, users can create graphics for the Cameo to cut-print or, when its blade is replaced with a pen, print-print as a sketch. It operates with or without a cutting mat, and can produce items as small as 1/4" wide and as large as 12" wide. Dimensional length outputs are unlimited.
Silhouette Studio includes a variety of tools and functions, as well as import capabilities for cutting any font a user already owns. In addition to paper projects, such as scrapbooking and Best Snowflake Ever-making, the Cameo-Studio due can help customize apparel with iron-on words and designs, or cut shapes and phrases out of vinyl for use as stencils in glass etching projects.
Silhouette's personal cutter measures 5" tall x 20.9" wide x 6.5" deep and weighs 12 pounds. The Cameo package includes the cutting device, Silhouette Studio software for Windows XP/Vista/7 and Mac OS X 10.5.8 and higher, 50 cuttable designs, a 12" cutting mat, a cutting blade, and a $10 gift certificate to the Silhouette online store.
