At first I was very impressed with Rosle's Egg Topper eggshell remover because I thought it made a perfect, clean cut around the shell of a soft or hard boiled egg, and then lifted that shell off just as perfect and clean. I thought that because that is what the above image of the Egg Topper leads you to believe.
But it seemed too good to be true because everyone knows that 3 out of 5 hard boiled eggs have shells that shatter when you try to peel them, plus cling to the egg white like my friend Cornelius to his circa 2004 Playboy with Charisma Carpenter on the cover. So then I watched the video, and guess what: it is too good to be true.
Just like your knife, or fingers, would, the Rosle Egg Topper requires the removal of the entire chunk of egg beneath the shell it cuts. Perfectly, I'll admit. So what's the point? I guess the Topper is more accurate and reliable than a knife. It also looks somewhat fun to use.
Once placed on top of your egg, you pull the Egg Topper handle up and let it drop a couple times, which activates its spring mechanism and causes vibrations that enable the sharp stainless steel dome edge to slice 'round the shell in a perfect circle. From there, you can cut the top off with a knife if the egg is boiled hard, or lift it off by hand if it's soft.
