Available in 2 sizes, the dog door installs through any human door 1-1/2" to 2" thick so that Fido can gain access to the vast porcelain throne that is Mother Nature--particularly when it's pouring rain and 37 degrees out, or I've managed to score a slumber party invite from the girl dressed as Dead Supergirl at Cosplay night--without my help. In addition, the SmartDoor's flap is electronic, and its default setting locked. So when paired with the system's SmartKey, a small dog collar attachment, it can use radio-frequency technology to open only in response to the dog's presence/anxious pee dance. This reduces the risk that my neighbor's cat Willard, wild animals, small children, and midgets will infiltrate my home.
PetSafe SmartDoor packages include 1 pre-programmed SmartKey, but can be paired with up to 5 SmartKeys for households with more than one pet. The SmartDoor for small pets accommodates dogs up to 15 pounds, with flap opening measurements of 6-5/8" wide x 7-15/16" high. Large doors for dogs up to 100 pounds have opening dimensions of 11" wide x 16" high.
