The gammaCore Sapphire is designed and FDA-cleared both to block pain signals traveling along the vagus nerve during active headaches, and to prevent them from firing in the first place to prevent headaches from coming on. It is geared towards people who experience frequent headaches, and specifically migraines, cluster headaches, hemicrania continua (HC), and paroxysmal hemicrania (PH).
A handheld, portable, and rechargeable device, the gammaCore Sapphire treats acute headaches in a few 2-minute sessions, and helps prevent chronic headaches with twice-a-day use for 4 minutes apiece. Usage is fairly straightforward - just follow the instructions to locate the vagus nerve on the right or left side of your neck, and hold the metal nodes of the gammaCore Sapphire against it for stimulation. You'll be able to select your own intensity level, and will know you've reached the correct one when you feel a strong tingling sensation, or downward pull on your lip.
The gammaCore Sapphire headache relief device does require a doctor's prescription to obtain, and associated costs are probably wrapped up in the convoluted terms of your insurance coverage. The device also uses "cards" that produce its stimulations, and each card is loaded to support up to 24 stimulations per day for 93 consecutive treatment days. After that, you'll need to order a gammaCore Sapphire refill card.
