The Best Cigar Gifts for the Serious Cigar Smoker
A fine Cuban is now a legal cigar gift - and probably the best cigar gift - for your favorite cigar aficionado, but only if you or someone you know bring it back to the US yourself. Reselling Cuban cigars is still verboten. So if you can't swing a cigar acquisition field trip to Cuba anytime soon, it's probably best to stick to those peddled stateside or, better, accessories - cutters, lighters, ashtrays, and humidors - that will elevate the smoking experience for cigar smokers.
Here are my picks for the best cigar gifts for the serious cigar smoker.>
Note: Cigar gift prices are listed as they were at printing. Prices are subject to change.
Smoak Wooden Cigar Pipe. $29 to $49. They say the Smoak Pipe "looks and feels just like an authentic hand rolled Cuban cigar." I can't testify to how the wooden stogie feels, but I'd say it looks a little more like a short staff for stick fighting in martial arts class, or maybe the end of a designer jumprope. Which is even better, because no one will ever guess you're about to take a big puff out of the ceramic inlay running through the Smoak's center.
Well, not until they smell it anyway.
ST Dupont James Bond Spectre Lighter $1,595. The name's Bond. Flames Bond. This butane lighter is ST Dupont's black matte PVD version of its James Bond Spectre 007 Premium Collection release. You can also get one in a Palladium finish here. Both have a nifty snail shell spiral design that terminates at a bullet hole in the center of the lighter. The hole is real too, though probably not from a bullet. The spy-worthy piece also has a secret compartment at its base for storing encrypted messages, safe codes, and your home address for the Uber driver in case you get too drunk to remember it.
CigarzUp Beer Bottle Cigar Holder $12. A beer in one hand, a cigar in...the same hand. CigarzUp, yep, keeps your cigar up, and at the ready, when you're enjoying a smoke alongside a bottled cold one. Though admittedly kinda cheap-looking, the plastic attachment clasps onto a beer, water, or soda bottle, and offers up a rounded ledge to cradle a cigar. That way, it won't roll off the table, and you'll be able to smoke and drink at the same time. Just keep your index finger over the cigar to keep it in place while you take a swig, and then grab a puff on your arm's way back down.
Travel-Ready Cigar Humidor $25. Stogies in the morning, stogies in the evening, stogies on a 6-hour drive. When stogies got good storage you can smoke stogies anytime! Of course, if you're going to the trouble of sealing them off in a travel tube with built-in humidifier and hygrometer, you're probably smoking something a little nicer than a stogie.
Bolivar Belicosos in the morning, Bolivar Belicosos in the evening....
Mantello Ceramic Cigar Ashtray $13. The perfect size cigar cradle, the perfect size ash pit, and the perfect size for any smoker who doesn't like to share. Mantello's ashtray comes in deep blue, and has a deep tray for its ash, so none will touch the dangling cigar.
Colibri V-Cut Cigar Cutter $31 to $33. Call him Dr. Snip. A spring-loaded release, ergonomic design, and stainless steel blade elevate this cutter's design and function, which Colibri's decision to go with the V-shaped cut gives a nod to classic cigar preparation.
Stinky Cigar-Car Ashtray $14. Guess you know what this is for. Slip the ashtray in your cupholder, and enjoy the ride in your Stinky Cigar-Car smoking cigars of all sizes, up to 60+ ring gauge.
Lotus L52 Orion Cigar Lighter $85. Highlights include: twin pinpoint torch flames; a single action, push button ignition; a fuel level window; and all-metal housing. And though there's no relation to the auto maker, the Lotus L52 Orion looks a little like a race car. No relation to the constellation either, but its makers say this lighter "truly comes from the stars."
Folding Wood Cigar Ashtray Set $40. A cigar smoker's version of a ring box. No disappointment inside, either. This folding wood ashtray opens to reveal a guillotine cutter, a punch cutter, and a cigar bed in addition to the ash reservoir.
Scorpion Desktop Cigar Cutter $69. Take out the tips of 4 cigars at once with this polished desktop cutter. The lever drops to create 2 V-cuts and 2 guillotine cuts, and accommodates different cigar sizes.
Alec Bradley "The Burner" Cigar Lighter $34. As decorative for your tabletop as it is functional for your flaming needs. "The Burner" is is big, bad, wind-resistant build with a Bunsen burner flame and single action ignition. It has a 1.4 fl oz butane fuel canister. Measurements are 3.25" high x 5" wide x 3" deep.
7" Square Grid Cigar Ashtray $46. The Big Easy Tobacco Accessories keeps it big and easy with this gridded ashtray able to hold up to 4 lit cigars in clearly delineated corrals. No bumping, ash brushing, or rolling off the edge. The ashtray is made of pewter and weighs a hefty 2.65 pounds.
XiKar X-treme Protection Rugged Cigar Travel Case $19. Another cigar transporter, but this one holds a few more smokes than the bright red one we saw earlier. It's also "X-treme!" Which means it's made from super-strong, crushproof ABI molded plastic for safe and easy storage in a golf bag, briefcase, glove or tackle box. This travel case is also air- and watertight, with a humidification system that, XiKar points out, "due to the ultra tight seal is not even needed, but we have included it anyway!"
Cigar Box Guitar. $150. A new way to enjoy some Padron 9s. These custom made smoke box guitars are detailed and expanded, with fretted butternut necks and rosewood fretboards. A mag pickup at the neck and a transducer under the bridge comprise the instrument's electronics, and volume, tone, and blend pots create the sounds that make the ladies get up off their honky tonk badonkadonks.
