About WedgeWood Cobalt & Tungsten Carbide Rings

Steven Wyatt of WedgeWood Rings handcrafts, sands, and polishes every one of his elegant metal and wood combinations to create standout pieces of jewelry that highlight the natural grain and unique characteristics of their materials and wood types.

His Cobalt & Wood rings pair a full outer layer of cobalt with a full inner layer of your choice of several woods. According to Wyatt, the cobalt material is the most scratch-resistant and shatterproof of his metal offerings. It is hypoallergenic and biocompatible like titanium, and looks identical to platinum in color. However, cobalt is an order of magnitude stronger than platinum, and in situations where titanium would falter, it will remain as unscathed by scratches as a Corgi in the middle of a declawed cat fight. Cobalt rings come in satin or polished finishes, with your choice of the following wood interior linings:

  • Bourbon Barrel White Oak Whiskey, with barrels from Jack Daniels, Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace, and Woodford Reserve amongst others.
  • USS North Carolina Deck Teak
  • Arizona Desert Ironwood Burl
  • Snakewood
  • Bethlehem Olivewood
  • Angel's Envy Bourbon Barrel
  • Hawaiian Curly Koa
  • Pheasantwood
  • Brazilian Kingwood
  • Beetle Kill Pine

WedgeWood's Tungsten Carbide & Wood rings feature a wood inset running the top circumference of the elemental fusions. Tungsten and Carbon on their own are powders that, when fused at high temperatures with binders, emerge as a super-dense, virtually indestructible metal. Wyatt notes that it is technically possible to shatter one of his Tungsten Carbide rings, but actually having it happen would take some extenuating circumstances. The material is also 10 times harder than gold (with nearly the weight) and 5 times harder than steel. Aesthetically, Tungsten Carbide is dark gray in color and treated with a permanent finish that should never corrode.

Tungsten Carbide rings also come with your choice of wood inlays, including:

  • Bourbon Barrel Oak Stave, with barrels from Jack Daniels, Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace, and Woodford Reserve amongst others.
  • Exhibition Grade Hawaiian Koa Wood
  • Mexican Cocobolo Wood
  • Arizona Desert Ironwood Burl
  • Old Growth Ponderosa Pine
