If you're getting a Dino Pet as a gift for your kid, tell them it's a dinosaur crossed with a firefly. If you're getting one as a gift for a geek, tell them it's a unicellular marine algae crossed with the biological process of photosynthesis.

Indeed the Dino Pet is a solution of living, bioluminescent organisms called dinoflagellates housed in an apatosaurus-shaped container. Ocean-based dinoflagellates glow when agitated. So when the current kicks up or, in this case, in response to your shake, shake, shaking them like a Polaroid picture. In Dino Pets, dinoflagellates grow and "charge" in indirect sunlight/under a low watt bulb during the day, and then beam that magical, trippy blue-green color when you wake them up at night.

Dino Pets typically live for 1 to 3 months, though life extension is possible through feeding them BioPop's supplemental growth medium (i.e., Dino food).

Dino Pets are up for adoption at 28% off retail price for a limited time.
