Sphero says Ollie, its latest app-driven RC toy, can "launch over the competition at floor-warping speeds." In the world of Bluetooth connectivity and USB rechargeable power, that's about 14 mph. Hmmm. Five times slower than a cheetah. But...more than twice as fast as me in an all-out sprint. I guess I'm impressed.

At the behest of your smartphone or tablet, Ollie will spin and flip with its included Nubby Tires in place, or drift like a street racer when you remove them. According to Sphero's video, this next-generation of their original robotic ball is designed for tricks and primed for competitions amongst friends. It has a 100-foot range when connected via Bluetooth LE and free apps available through iTunes and GooglePlay.

Ollie packages include the cylindrical Sonic himself, 2 Nubby Tires, 2 Prime Hubs, and a USB charging cable. Those who want to customize their Ollie can also purchase Turbo Tire, Ultra Tires, Agro Hubs, and Flux Hubs from Sphero separately.

The Sphero Ollie is a top Dude Gift for a Teen pick.

Muchas danke to Manny for the Dude Product Tip.
