The Force Awakens...the gears in Sphero's capitalist brain. The company that brought us one of the first app-controlled animated toys (see Sphero OG and Sphero Ollie) has collaborated with the stirring Star Wars mania to bring us the Sphero BB-8 Astromech Droid. We'll meet BB-8 onscreen in Episode VII, but if you can't wait that long to start building your character relationships, grab Sphero's
life droid-like interpretation now.
BB-8 endeavors to be the most advanced Sphero toy yet. It has an adaptive personality, meaning the range of expressions and responses it gives with change according to your interactions with it. In addition to Sphero's trademark movement authenticity, guided by your smartphone or tablet, BB-8 will be able to recognize and react to your voice, and follow certain oral commands as well. It can also move autonomously in "patrol" mode.
To make it even less fair that kids today can pretty much have everything they see in the movies delivered to their living rooms in 2 days with Prime shipping, BB-8's video recording capabilities include virtual holographic playback.
