Despite the douk-douk's playful name, plus its tribal handle engraving and doodle-y blade design, this is not a pocket knife to play with. It's been used as a utility knife in the French colonies in Oceania since 1929, and for over 50 years, has made appearances as a weapon of the French army and French Foreign Legion.
The douk-douk's handle carving was developed by Gaspard Cognet, and is based on an engraving he saw in an illustrated dictionary of a Melanesian spirit incarnation the people call "douk-douk." Functionally, the knife has a reputation as a tough but inexpensive working tool.
The douk-douk blade is made of carbon steel, 3-1/8" long. The handle is ferro-blackened folded steel.
