Modern Birdhouses
Discontinued

One thing I've learned over the past year is that I will never, ever be able to afford a new house where I live. Or a modern house. Or a craftsman, a rambler, or a crumbling POS either. Whatever. Home ownership is for the birds.

So, birds, allow me to show you some fine inventory. A collection of modern birdhouses from Douglas Barnhard of Sourgrassbuilt. Barnhard is a craftsman out of Santa Cruz who designs and handmakes his aviary abodes in the styles of architects Eichler and Frank Lloyd Wright. Construction materials include largely repurposed woods and parts.

Sunnyvale, shown above, takes after Eichler's Sunnyvale, CA home designs of the 1960s. The birdhouse is built from bamboo wood and orange laminate, with viewing windows cut from geometric metal screens.

Other Sourgrassbuilt birdhouses incorporate "living walls," with the option for buyers to add succulents or other plants to the exterior that may improve their birdie residents' attempts to score a segment on HGTV.
