Boss Monster: The Dungeon Building Card Game
If you haven't played Boss Monster: The Dungeon Building Card Game, we have that in common, my friend. This is not a new game of side-scrolling dungeon construction - it already has a Boss Monster 2, plus 3 expansion packs, plus hundreds of happy reviews - but I've never had the opportunity to throw down with a Boss deck.
Here's the deal: 150 cards; 2 to 4 players; head-to-head competition to become the Boss Monster, or the first Boss to build a dungeon sweet enough to entice 10 Souls inside. Players acquire the Souls of Heroes, who they must try to lure in and defeat. If they do, they crush the Hero, but if they don't they take a hit, or Wound. Bosses who suffer 5 Wounds are out.
Your 2 priorities over the 20 minutes it takes to play a round of Boss Monster are to attract Heroes faster than your opponents, and then kill those Heroes before they're able to Wound your Boss. As for the dungeon-building portion of the game, players can build one room per turn. Room cards designate their damage and treasure value; higher values tend to dole out less damage to the Heroes, so strategy is important during the build process.
Boss Monster players also have the opportunity to cast Spells during each "build phase," to give themselves an advantage or disrupt and opponent.
