Holiday Thrift: 20 Thoughtful Gifts for $15 or Less
I did my Santa's best to come up with a list of 20 gifts I hope you'll agree fall into the category of thrifty and thoughtful, rather than chintzy and cheap. All of the holiday gift ideas are priced at $15 or less (or they were at printing, at least) and whether you need a budget-friendly gift for your mama or pop, your brother or bros, or the 1,000 cousins under the age of 8 who will be wreaking havoc around the Christmas tree this year, you should find some present-worthy, wrapping-paper-ready options in my compilation of 20 thoughtful gifts for $15 or less.
Note: $15 or less products are priced as they were at printing, on November 15, 2021. Pricing, and availability, are subject to change.
Origami Sticky Notes
Fold your notes, messages, and nagging reminders into cranes, butterflies, boats, and other whimsical shapes that will make the words you've written look as charming as they sound. Or lessen their blow, as the case may be.
SUCK UK's Origami Sticky Notes level up boring yellow Post-Its with instructions for turning each square into one of 10 different 3D models. A little manual dexterity on your part is required too.
Miniature Pocket Knives
Got a little bone to pick? These miniature pocket knives are perfect for cutting wee bits of meat off wee tiny steaks. Or maybe, like, fork and knifin' it with a pile of buffalo wings.
Sasquatch Tool A Long Multi-Tool
And here I thought Sasquatch's only talents were leaving footprints and hiding from mankind. But apparently he can also open bottles, cut cords, measure increments of 1", and screw things in and out. Which is a lot more than I can say for grizzly bears, who usually just screw things over.
The Sasquatch Tool A Long Multi-Tool comes with an attached carabiner so you can clip 'Squatch to your pack or pants, and keep his 3.6" x 2.5" talents at the ready (or at the Yeti, if you prefer) at all times.
Lilly Brush Pet Hair Remover
The Lilly Brush pet hair remover is named not after the tidy, hairless flower, but a shedding ball of fur and fluff and floof, who herself was (perhaps erroneously) named after the tidy, hairless flower. Lilly was Lilly Brush founder Elsie Hamilton's Australian Shepherd, and the dog who taught her old-school sticky pet hair rollers and velvety scrapers were anything but the cat's meow.
This version of the Lilly Brush is their Mini Pet Remover, a 4" x 3" tool with scraper-style edges and pointed corners strong enough to dig out and ball up embedded dog, cat, rabbit, and snake fur from couches, carpet, clothes, car seats, and any other crevices it nestles into.
Helix Ergonomic Citrus Juicer
It's an ergo-juicer. The Helix Citrus Juicer from Joseph Joseph gives the twist-action of your hand and wrist a big assist. Makes the process less awkward. Requires less strength, so you can work harder for longer.
At least on juicing lemons and limes for drinks and dishes and desserts, such as the glorious olive oil-crusted lemon bars my wife promised to make me for New Year's in exchange for not making her watch Die Hard on Christmas.
Do You Look Like Your Cat? Memory Game
Do you look like your cat? I don't think I look like mine. For example, my cat, Zanzibar, has a bushy tortoiseshell coat of fur that covers his entire body, while I myself am almost entirely hairless (thanks, Remington Shortcut!) with a skin color currently somewhere between school glue and wood glue. My wife has pointed out that we both get the exact same look of disdain on our faces when we see each other, but I'm not sure that's enough to qualify us for this Match the Cats with Their Humans! memory game.
Asobu StackNGo Unbreakable Wine Glasses
Asobu StackNGo wine glasses have many nice qualities. They are unbreakable, shatterproof if dropped, since they're made of patio- and poolside-safe plastic. They're also ultra-portable, with the stem folding into the 10-ounce cup to conserve space, and make packing up at the end of your wine drinking session a lot cleaner - no errant drops of Cab dripping all over your blankets, clothes, and car seats. And finally, StackNGo wine glasses are stackable, snapping onto one another to keep them tidy and together during transport.
Cap Gun Bottle Opener & Cap Shooter
The Cap Gun, a bottle opener and bottle cap shooter toy, looks like a fun little trinket - and plink!-it - and pelt!-it - for Christmas morning. Suddenly, cracking open cold ones becomes less about the enjoying of the cold one and more about the cracking open, and playing drinking games becomes becomes less about the chugging, and more about the chucking.
Though I'm sure you resourceful dudes can figure out a way to have your Cap Gun and drink your beer too.
Am I Overthinking This?
If you have to ask, "Am I overthinking this?" the answer is probably yes, but in lieu of people who chastise or roll their eyes at you for it, now you can get a book called Am I Overthinking This? and explore over-answers to your questions in 101 charts.
Sword House Key
It's about time I had a Sword House Key, given the number of sword fights with locks I've had in my life. This one is a blank suitable for your standard door locks - Schlage SC-1 to be precise. You can also get a Sword House Key blank for Kwikset KW1/11 here.
Rotating Cup-Washing Brush
Oooh, a suction cuppable car wash for your dirty glasses. This rotating cup-washing brush secures upright or sideways to any surface friendly to its 3 big suckers. (Though I'm not really sure why you'd mount it anywhere but a sink, given it's going to slosh out water, and maybe soap, milk, juice, and booze during use.) Once in place, slide your dirty glass between the washer's duo of brushes, and get your twist-n-turn wrist action ready.
Welltop 3D Woodworking Ruler
Welltop's 3D Woodworking Ruler gives you every angle - and line, arc, and circle - on your carpentry and other construction projects. The mitre angle measuring tool condenses 10 functions into its 8.46" x 2.44" x 2.8" dimensions.
Puking Grogu Baby Yoda Toothpaste Topper
Reminding people of vomit has always been a good way to get them to brush their teeth, but it goes a little differently when the Puking Grogu, a 3D-printed Baby Yoda toothpaste topper comes into play. Whereas normally you'd tell someone, "Dude, your breath smells like barf," and they would immediately go brush their teeth in humiliation, here we have the item serving to eliminate the vomit scent - the toothpaste - simulating vomit itself. Vomit spewing from the mouth of the most adorable creature in the galaxy.
Mushroom Garden LED Night Light
This Mushroom Garden LED Night Light is not made with real mushrooms. But it sure is pretty, and its 7 rotating colors that automatically illuminate when it gets dark will sure come in handy to light your path to the bathroom when you gorge on a few too many Baby Bellas the night before.
Chums The Vault Case
Readers, Dudes, Chums, The Vault is here to encase your valuables, and protect everything from your sunglasses to your phone to your crucial implements of EDC during your summer travels, outdoor adventures, and accidental butt placements right on top of your fragile shit.
Chums Vault Cases, available in Black and Realtree, are 6.5" x 3" x 3" hard shell exteriors made to protect glasses, electronics, and other small items from bumps, knocks, drops, and crushes. Unlike standard sunglasses hard cases, The Vault is sized to store several items, and has a soft interior lining with a mesh pocket to cradle and separate them.
Brass OTF Keychain Knife
Let me show you the brass OTF keychain knife in my pocket. Woooommp! There's the 1.26" blade. Out the front it goes.
This OTF keychain pocket knife is 4.25" long overall when open, 2.9" when closed. It has a brass handle and retractable 3Cr13 stainless steel blade. According to seller SZHOWORLD, "With this pocket knife, life is more convenient." And to think, I've been waiting for VR meetings and self-driving cars.
Hummingbird Ring Feeder
Hand-, or rather, finger-feed your garden's most adorable guests with a Hummingbird Ring Feeder. The oversized ring is a scaled-down version of a standard plastic hummingbird feeder, with a bottom reservoir for the sugar water hummingbirds love, and a bright flower-shaped cover to attract them, and a hole punched through the lid's center just big enough for their needle-like bills to poke into to slurp it up.
Aerobie Sonic Fin 100-Yard Football
The Aerobie Sonic Fin Football sees the Wingball's 88MPH throwing speeds, and offers up its own feat of foam football strength: a pro-level throwing distance of up to 100 yards. You know, like, Russell Wilson-style.
And, oh hey there, Russell Wilson. The quarterback with the arm of gold and the offensive line of invisibility just so happens to be (Sea)hawking the Sonic Fin Football for Aerobie.
Invisible Glass Reach & Clean Windshield Tool
Now if my Aunt Jan saw a spot on her windshield, she'd lick her finger and aggressively wipe at it until it came off. Even if it were in one of those impossible-to-reach spots where the windshield slopes into the dashboard, she'd Go-Go Gadget her arms to get at it. No one, neither young nephews who just ate chocolate, nor vehicular glass smudged with dead bugs, escapes the Lee Press-On nails and saliva of my Aunt Jan!
For the rest of us, an Invisible Glass Reach & Clean Windshield Tool might come in handy. A spade-shaped head attached to an 18" wand, the Reach & Clean helps make tight spots, small crevices, and elusive parts of your auto (or home) glass easier to access and buff to a streak-free shine.
Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener Drill Attachment Kit
I think I will approach lawn mower blade sharpening the same way I approach kitchen knife sharpening: when the blades get too dull to cut the grass properly anymore, I'll just buy a new lawn mower.
Those of you who want to give Grizzly Lawn Gear's Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener Drill Attachment Kit a go, you'll get a set of 3 corundum sharpening stones that pop onto the power drill you already own. The kit also includes a mower blade balancer to help with even sharpening, and a pair of latex gloves to keep your hands free of burns and bruises.
