[ET] of the Coolest Products Revolving around Earth

On Earth Day I thought I'd pay tribute to 11 of the coolest products revolving around Earth. And, nope, the sun isn't one of them. These are products that literally give you the world...in their own unique representations, explorations, and interpretations. You might call them some of the most clever and artistic designs on Earth.

And, at least in my opinion, they're 11 of the coolest products revolving around it.

Geochron World Map & 24-Hour Clock

Geochron World Map & 24-Hour Clock
Geochron World Map & 24-Hour Clock

The Geochron is one of the coolest maps I ever saw. Not only is it all big and backlit, but the map itself is a conveyor belt driven left to right in sync with the earth's rotation. So at any given time the Geochron and the electric clock motor responsible for its movement depict: legal time zones; Greenwich Mean Time; Greenwich apparent time; local apparent time; moment of sunrise; moment of sunset; duration of daylight; sun's meridian passage; sun's equation of time; and degrees of latitude and longitude.

Maglev Floating Globe

Maglev Floating Globe
Maglev Floating Globe

They say you should keep the Maglev world away from USB keys, media players, and computers. I'd say the same goes for our Earth world and many, many...many of the people living in it. In the Maglev's case, it's because the desktop-display-ready globe achieves its nifty floating effect through an electromagnetic, computerized sensor, which could compromise other tech's functionality. (I'll leave it up to you to decide what I mean about the floating globe we live on.)

World Travel Tracker Scratch Off Maps

World Travel Tracker Scratch Off Maps

Yeah, yeah, it's highly inadvisable to scratch off many new travel spots right now, but let's not go all Debbie Downer on Landmass Goods' world travel tracker maps. Hang in there and we'll all be able to vacation in Croatia, rock climb in Argentina, and attend a quality control conference in Poland someday soon.

And when that day comes, head over to your map and scratch off the country's metallic patina like a dried-out scab to reveal a brilliant color of Been there, done that! underneath.

Atlas Etched Globe Liquor Decanter

Atlas Etched Globe Liquor Decanter

The Atlas of the Etched Globe Liquor Decanter has it even worse than the Atlas of Greek mythology. The latter may have been cursed with the task of holding up the skies for eternity, but this one has to carry the weight of the world and my scotch. I should be a pal and lighten up his load for him.

Planet Earth Globe Fire Pit

Planet Earth Globe Fire Pit

Ahhh, a globe-shaped fire pit whose flaming cutouts are our planet Earth's continents. Just like my grandma always said: the next time the world goes down, it's going down in flames. This sinister piece of social commentary really is perfect for a little apocalypse theme party before the solar flares, the Rona, or the hand of the Lord gets to us all.

MOVA Sun-and-Earth-Powered Globes

MOVA Sun-and-Earth-Powered Globes
MOVA Sun-and-Earth-Powered Globes

MOVA Globes are nothing if not resourceful. The striking pieces of planetary art not only silently rotate and glisten all the livelong day, but they do it without the use of power cords or batteries. This cosmic event for the desktop absorbs the energy of the sun and Earth, using the scientific bounty of our universe to drive their movement. And yes, as a matter of fact, I do think MOVA Globes look that poetic in action too.

MOVA Globes convert the sunlight in a room and the force of the Earth's magnetic field into their own kinetic energy, turning serenely and as if floating, atop a 3-pronged acrylic base. The globes are actually configured from 2 globes, the inner of which contains that model's graphic and does the actual rotating. Fully encased by a clear acrylic outer globe, the inner sphere can move freely through a "filling" of injected clear fluid that buoyantly supports it. This fluid also magnifies the inner MOVA's graphic, giving the illusion that it's on the outer shell, and that the outer shell is the one moving.

We've seen Doodle Duvets before, but I think this World Map version of the bedding is extra cool because in addition to getting creative before bedtime and when I wake up, I might also finally learn where Madagascar and the Maldives and New Hampshire are! The duvet cover's map artwork is an original, hand-drawn design, and also includes global facts, wild animals, and creatures of the sea.

Icosahedral Projection Earth Puzzle

Icosahedral Projection Earth Puzzle

Made based on the icosahedral projection method, this Earth Puzzle is going to be a doozie for even the most adept puzzle masters and possessors of spatial intelligence. Another name for its type of loosey-goosey configuration is an infinity puzzle, which means it is infinitely reconfigurable, has no edges, and no fixed shape. So no corner pieces, no North, and no South for you! No soup either!

When assembling you can decide to try to get the landmasses to join together, or connect the oceans. Or say F it and make your own version of earth.
