Grandpa Witmer's crank mixer for "natural" peanut and other nut butters (read: peanut and nut butters separated into 3/4 partially hardened cement mass on bottom, 1/4 pool of oil ready to slosh all over your hand on top) looks like something Grandpa Witmer could have made on arts & crafts day at the retirement home. But no matter. If you're a PB fiend, or tahini-heavy hummus hoarder, or eat almond butter by the lovin' spooful, Grandpa Witmer's simple lid contraption is going to cure one of your biggest natural nut butter woes.

The mixer comes in 4 parts, a lid, a lid liner, a gasket, and a mixing rod, and Witmer sells sets with lids of various sizes to fit different jars. Replace your nut butter's original lid with Granpa Witmer's, and crank the handle clockwise and with downward pressure to spin the rod inside. You can do this with the jar upright or sideways to incorporate nut oil and nut mass without making a greasy mess.

When you're finished churning, you can pull the mixing rod out without removing the lid; the gasket will clean it off on its way out, precluding solving one mess while creating another. The interior liner also collects excess peanut butter, so you can scrape that off on the rim of the jar once you do unscrew the lid.

The peanut butter mixer is made from chrome plated steel and needs to be hand washed for cleaning. Lid sizes are available in 2.75", 3", and 3.25" diameters, which fit natural nut butter jars holding 16 to 26 ounces of separated goo.
